Join Dr. Liam Riordan of the University of Maine for a lecture on the Penobscot Expedition, co-hosted by the CHS and Maine Historical Society to honor the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Prior to the lecture, attendees will have the opportunity to view the CHS’s incredible collection of archival material related to the Penobscot Expedition.

This illustrated lecture and discussion considers the multi-national context of the Revolutionary War in the borderlands that would later become Maine. From Wabanaki diplomacy in July 1776, to British control of Fort George from 1779 to 1783, and the disastrous Penobscot Expedition, the American Revolution looks very different from the perspective of Penobscot Bay. How should we remember such things 250 years later?
