John spent 20 years in the jewelry industry in both retail (12 years) and manufacturing (8 years). His main areas of responsibilities were in purchasing raw materials for manufacturing and buying and managing finished goods for retail operations. He left the jewelry industry to own and operate his own small business which was a screen printing, promotional products, and graphic design business. They operated for 20 years in Maine and New Hampshire when he sold the business and retired in 2011. His family has been “summer folk” home owners for 64 years. He and his wife, Maggie, split their time between Castine (May – Nov.) and Scarborough (Nov.-May). He and Maggie are currently Abbott School docents. John is the son of Hamilton Mitchell, a long-time CHS supporter for whom the Mitchell Room is named.
