Partygoers at Summer in Full Bloom

Donate to the 2019 Annual Appeal

I believe that the more you know about the past, the better you are prepared for the future.
-President Theodore Roosevelt

As members and donors, your ongoing commitment to the Castine Historical Society shows you understand why preserving and teaching history is vitally important in today’s world. More than ever, it is imperative that historical societies find ways to use history to empower people to make informed decisions in their daily lives.

Your Annual Appeal gift can help us continue to make history relevant and meaningful to our 5,000 yearly visitors. We hope you will consider making an Annual Appeal gift today.

Attendees enjoy Summer in Full Bloom, our 2019 fundraiser. Thanks to your support, this year we organized our most ambitious exhibition to date: Risky Business: Square-Rigged Ships and Salted Fish. The exhibit, and its accompanying book, document Castine’s important role in 19th-century Maine’s maritime economy of trade and ship building.

The exhibit also examines how events beyond human control such as war, major weather catastrophes, illness, immigration, and global economies can affect people’s lives, changing them forever. We read about all these topics in today’s national and international news, and all played major roles in the Castine community of the 1800s.

Your Annual Appeal donation can assist us as we continue to demonstrate why history matters in today’s world. You play an important role in helping us provide thought-provoking exhibitions, lectures, publications, and programs that, as Theodore Roosevelt said, prepare us for the future.

We are very grateful for your support – whether through your membership, attending events, or your Annual Appeal gift. Your continued support makes a difference and we thank you for it!
