Castine Historical Society Welcomes Part-time Professional Curator

The Castine Historical Society is pleased to welcome Ms. Paige S. Lilly, of Blue Hill, as its first paid professional staff member. She holds a Bachelor's degree in American Studies and Spanish from Colby College and a Master's degree in American and New England Studies from the University of Southern Maine. Previously she has worked as an Archivist/Librarian for the United Society of Shakers and for the Penobscot Marine Museum, as Collections Manager for Northeast Historic Film, and more recently as Archivist for the William S. Cohen Papers at the Fogler Library at the University of Maine. In addition to her new duties at the Society, she will also serve as part-time Archivist at the Penobscot Marine Museum in Searsport and as part-time archivist at the Wilson Museum in Castine.

At the Castine Historical Society, Ms. Lilly will focus on making the CHS collections easily accessible to researchers, students and members of the community. Ms. Lilly has commented that "the members, donors, and volunteers developed a remarkable resource here--my job will be to manage its preservation and find collaborative ways to make the collection more useful to the community." She will also join with CHS Board members active in exhibits, educational outreach to area schools, and special events.

The Castine Historical Society encourages members of the community who have inquiries on the CHS collections or on the historical development of the Castine-Bagaduce River area to be in touch with Ms. Lilly. She can be reached at the Castine Historical Society's Abbott School on the Castine Green (326-4118) on Mondays and Fridays from 9 to 5, and on Tuesday morning from 9 until noon.
